Our Founding Story
In the summer of 1987, twelve Gulf Coast families gathered on a stretch of undeveloped beachfront in Palmetto Bay, Florida, with a shared dream: to create a private sanctuary where like-minded individuals could enjoy the sea, cultivate lasting friendships, and build a legacy for generations to come.
What began as a small seasonal club with a modest dock and a single dining room has grown, over nearly four decades, into a 42-acre waterfront estate featuring a 120-slip marina, three pools, six tennis courts, two dining venues, a full-service fitness center, and some of the most coveted beachfront in South Florida.
The original clubhouse — a converted fishing lodge purchased by the founding families for $340,000 — still stands at the heart of our property, now restored and home to the club’s private library and board room. It is a reminder of where we started and the care that has always defined this place.
Leadership & Ownership
Oceanview Clubs is privately owned and operated by Sandra Whitfield, who acquired full ownership in 2011 following the retirement of founding member Robert Haines. Under Sandra’s leadership, the club has completed more than $18 million in capital improvements, including the 2019 marina expansion, the 2022 fitness center renovation, and the 2024 resort pool deck project — all while maintaining the intimate, community-centered atmosphere that has always defined the Oceanview experience.
Our Philosophy
“A great club is not built by amenities alone. It is built by the people who walk through its doors and the memories they make here.”
— Sandra Whitfield, Owner
Community & Stewardship
Oceanview Clubs takes seriously its responsibility to the Gulf Coast community and the natural environment that makes this place extraordinary. Through our annual Charity Golf Classic and our partnership with the Gulf Conservation Alliance, we have contributed over $420,000 to local marine conservation efforts since 2008.
Our junior sailing program has introduced more than 600 young people to the sport over the past decade, and our scholarship fund supports two Palmetto Bay high school students each year in pursuing degrees in marine science, environmental studies, or hospitality management.
